National Honor Society

Ulysses High School Chapter

Congratulations, for accumulating a G.P.A of a minimum of 3.3. This academic achievement entitles you to apply for membership in our National Honor Society. Completion and submission of the application does not automatically constitute acceptance into NHS.  All applications will go through a selection committee for final acceptance into NHS.

Complete the Application only if you wish to be considered for membership into National Honor Society. Please return it to Mr. Rietcheck ELECTRONICALLY by 4:00 pm, Friday, March 25, 2022. If this form is returned later than the due date and time, you will not be considered for membership.

Be advised that completion and submission of the application does not automatically constitute selection into NHS. Those students whose G.P.A is just above the minimum must rate very high in all other categories. This is necessary since the National Council requires that we dismiss members if the scholastic average falls below the minimum requirement. Once dismissed, a former member is never eligible for membership again

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP

Selection for membership in the Ulysses High School branch of the National Honor Society is based on four categories mandated by the National Honor Society constitution. Procedures are those recommended by that organization. Membership is open to juniors and seniors.

The four categories in which a member must excel are Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Scholarship consists of the grade point average of the student, which must be a minimum of 3.3. Leadership, Service, and Character judgments are determined by faculty recommendations and the submitted application. The information on the back of this page identifies these qualities. Although any student achieving the required grade point average is considered for membership, a high scholastic standing is no guarantee of membership. Only those who excel in the other three qualities will be chosen.

Once a student applies and is accepted into membership, he or she must be responsible in maintaining the high standards of the organization. A student’s membership can be reviewed at any time if he or she jeopardizes their status by failing to show leadership, service, academic excellencies, or high character.

A faculty review council will make the final selection for membership.
