USD 214 Board of Education Appoints Dr. Joel Applegate as New Superintendent
ULYSSES, KS -- The USD 214 Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joel Applegate as the new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Applegate will succeed Corey Burton, who will retire at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
Dr. Applegate brings extensive experience in education, having served as a teacher and in various administrative roles. He has served as Superintendent of Oberlin Public Schools for the past five years and previously as Director of Secondary Education for Liberal Public Schools.
Board President Diana Nunez announced the selection of Dr. Applegate, stating, "After a rigorous and comprehensive search, we are thrilled to have found the ideal leader for our district. The board is confident that Joel's leadership will ensure USD 214 continues to prioritize and advance student achievement."
The Board of Education is confident in its selection of Dr. Applegate to lead USD 214 and serve the students and community of Ulysses.
